Live art & experimental printmaking
Melbourne / Naarm — since 2012
Performprint takes over every gallery at Stockroom
For nine days we're filling all of Stockroom, Kyneton's 1850s butter factory turned contemporary art space, with the prints and the performance that makes them. Opening night is live: skateboards, steam rollers, rolling pins, block ink, body printing, noise and spoken word. Big immersive prints made in front of you, and you're part of it.

§ 00 — Statement
By the incorporation of different fields of interest — print and performance — we want the audience to experience the relevance of print as a performative vehicle.
This is printmaking expressed through durational performance and risk-taking: a mashup of live art, printmaking, the ego, endurance and stereotypes. Bravado, masculinity, feminism, reproduction and politics — pressed out copy after copy.
Rolling back and forth over a single spot of ink, the wheels of a skateboard become the point of contact and the matrix of the performance. The print is what's left behind: a record of a body, a place, an afternoon, a crowd. It cross-references Philip Auslander's theories of liveness — the event versus its document.

The artists collaborated on independent projects before developing a shared live-art practice. Performprint is their most comprehensive collaboration — integrating print and performance while exploring copy-based technologies and future human scenarios.
§ 05 — Workshops
Performprint teaches experimental print workshops with community groups, universities, and primary and secondary schools — from all-day sessions to one-hour tutorials. Participants learn and make within the expanded field of printmaking: arrow prints, skateboard-wheel reliefs, body and street as press.
